Liqueurs Islay Whisky

This Island, home to only 2,500 people, is home to eight active distilleries and produces some of Scotlands most distinctive and popular malts. It lies 20miles off the west coast of Scotland and is largely covered in peat bog.

Again different styles of whisky are produced here. The distilleries on the south shores of the island are the known as the Kildalton big boys and produce the most pungent of Islays, and Scotlands, malts. Alongside the peatiness there is also a great iodine character thought perhaps to be produced by the seaweed content in the local peat or from the salty island maturation. Of the remaining distillers there is something for everyone from light salty beach malts, big rich fruity ones to light and medium weight smokey malts.
